ARTIST BEHIND TARKA
I was born in Pakistan and grew up between Pakistan and the US. My culture: its food, its textiles, the community that gathers around both has been my safe place for as long as I can remember, and it's where almost everything I make begins.
I have painted since 2012, in gouache, oil pastels, and charcoal. These days it's an iPad and an Apple Pencil, a change that came quietly after my child was born. It mattered less than I expected. The muscle memory of drawing the thing you love most doesn't seem to care what the pencil is made of.
Designer by day, painter at night after my child is asleep. My design work is AI-first. My painting is the opposite hands over mind, back to the root. The two hold each other in place.
